The Best of the Rest
or
88 Lines about 44 Songs

Part Three

22) The Royal Concept - Gimme Twice
Yes, this does sound just like Phoenix.  But Phoenix didn't release an album this year, and this is quite capable of filling the vacuum.

21) Atlas Genius - Trojans
Not much to say.  It is catchy indie pop though.

20) fun. - Some Nights
Yes, I don't understand the need for auto-tune, and the "whoa-oh-oh-ohs" do kinda sound like "Oh Cecilia."  Still, this song is, well, fun.

19) Tennis - Origins
This is such a great, great throwback to 50's and 60's rock/R&B.  Modern yet timeless.

18) Ben Kweller - Jealous Girl
Nice to see Ben Kweller back.  I like his increasing focus on 70's rock, and he hasn't forgotten how to write a powerful chorus.

17) Kimbra - Cameo Lover
I'm a little disappointed Kimbra's solo debut didn't make bigger waves than it did.  This is bright and sunny dance music, and who doesn't like triangle hair?

16) Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
I rather liked Taylor Swift's most recent album.  This song may have been everywhere, but for good reason: that chorus is undeniable.

15) Best Coast - The Only Place
Sure it's a good song, but lots of songs on this list are good songs.  No other song though can claim to be as effective of a tourism brochure.

14) The Heavy - What Makes a Good Man?
I almost always like what The Heavy is selling.  Seriously, people: this band should be bigger.

13) Icona Pop - I Love It
I sometimes just need some loud snotty pop music.  This song delivers on that.

12) First Aid Kit - Blue
Swedish bands just know melody.  Even Swedish folk bands.
